Zavora Lodge is on the coast of the Inhambane Province in Mozambique.

Zavora Lodge is a rustic self-catering resort with a restaurant and bar. The accommodation consist primarily of campsites, however there are also self-catering bungalows and beachfront houses with optional bed and breakfast rates available.

ABOUT ZAVORA LODGE
Zavora Lodge is situated in the Praia de Zavora Bay, Inhambane Province on one of the finest stretches of coastline in Mozambique.
Zavora Lodge is primarily a camping resort, frequented mostly by avid fishermen and woman. There are bungalows and newly renovated beachfront houses and self catering bungalows for those preferring not to camp. Activities include fishing, snorkeling, whale watching and swimming.
We also have a restaurant and bar, which caters from scrumptious breakfasts to mouth watering fresh sea food on a daily basis.
Our restaurant, bar and deck have a magnificent view of the ocean and reef, where you can spend hours watching an abundance of bird and marine life.
What makes our Lodge so uniquely special is the spectacular reef that runs off our shoreline into the ocean where you can spend hours snorkeling in the pools.
The excellent fishing and unspoilt beauty of miles and miles of coastline is what makes Zavora Lodge a magnificent holiday destination.
ACCOMMODATION
- Our self-catering beach houses, which all have a perfect sea view, can accommodate from 8 to 10 persons and are equipped with, cutlery, crockery, fridge, freezer, fans, linen, mosquito nets and a gas stove with an oven.
- Our self-catering bungalows can accommodate from 4 to 6 persons. They are equipped with, cutlery, crockery, a freezer only, 2 plate gas cooker, linen, mosquito nets.
- They are situated behind the dune and all are within quick walking distances of beach, bar and restaurant.
- The campsites vary from sea-facing to behind the dune and some of them have baracas and plug points. Campsites all have ablution blocks that are cleaned regularly, braai facilities and wash up bays.
Note:
- We do not supply towels at the Lodge.
- The entire Lodge is powered by a generator that runs from approximately 07:00 to 22:00 daily, and every alternate night the generator will run until 02:00.
- Tariffs quoted for bungalows, houses and camping are valid in peak season.
- Out of season tariffs can be negotiated for groups. Please enquire about out of season tariffs.
ZAVORA LODGE - ACCOMMODATION TYPES & FACILITIES
ALBATROSS CAMP
- Well-shaded camping facilities with hot- and cold showers are available on the seaside of the dune.
- Bookings are for a maximum of 4 persons per campsite at R100.00 p/p/p/n.
- A baraca and one plug point is included in the cost.
SEAGULL CAMP
- This camp has two 4 sleeper bungalows with patio and a spectacular sea-view.
- In Season rate: R850.00 p/d
- Out Season rate: R160.0 00 p/p/p/n
KINGFISHER CAMP
- Bookings are for a minimum of 6 persons per campsite at R90.00 p/p/p/n. A baraca and one plug point is included in the cost.
- Campsite number A11 costs R95.00 p/p/p/n as it is the only site in Kingfisher Camp with private ablution facilities.
HERON CAMP
- Bookings are R90.00 p/p/p/n for campsites with baracas and plug points.
- The campsites with either a baraca or a plug point are R80.00 p/p/p/n.
SELF-CATERING BUNGALOWS
- The bungalows are located in the camping area behind the dune and are furnished to a basic standard with hot water supplied via gas geysers.
- Bedding is supplied as well as mosquito nets, deep freezes, cutlery and crockery.
- Bookings are for a minimum of four persons in the 4 sleeper bungalows and six persons in the 6 sleeper bungalow.
- 4 Sleeper is R750.00 per day.
- 6 Sleeper is R1120.00 per day.
SELF-CATERING BEACH FRONT HOUSES
All houses have a stove, fridge, deepfreeze and are equipped with crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils well as mosquito nets and bedding.
Sailly & Marlin Houses
The houses can accommodate 8 persons in each house. Bookings are for 8 or less persons at R1850.00 per day for the house.
Manta Ray
Accommodates up to 10 people. Bookings are for 10 or less persons at R2370.00 per day for the house.
ACTIVITIES
Fishing
Zavora is recognized as one of the best fishing areas in Mozambique. The bay, protected by a reef, provides a perfect launch area for fishing boats.
Annually we have 2 to 3 fishing competitions with great expectations and memorable experiences.
Snorkeling and swimming
The reef also creates a natural tidal pool that is excellent for snorkeling and swimming.
Protective footgear recommended for walking on the reef.
Whale watching
Plenty of Humpback whales are sighted during June to November. Occasionally Eagle and Manta Rays, as well as the streamlined and graceful Sailfish, burst from the surface of the ocean in brief flights.
Dolphins are regularly seen feeding and playing in the bay.
Birding
An abundance of seabirds, shorebirds, waders and more can be seen.
Quad Bikes
No private quad bikes are allowed.
CUDA'S RESTAURANT & BAR
- The restaurant serves breakfast as well as a la carte menu for lunch and dinner.
- Fresh bread (pao) and ice are available.
- There is a DSTV situated behind reception.
- Cell phone reception is possible outside the reception office.
NOTE: STIPULATIONS BY THE MOZAMBIQUE MARINE
DEPARTMENT
- Beach vehicle permit: R100.00, valid for 30 days. This allows vehicles to be driven on the beach only to launch boats or take beach equipment down. Thereafter vehicles must be parked at the appointed areas on the beach. To gain access to the beach, all vehicle tyres must be deflated to a maximum of one bar.
- Launching permit for a large boat: M505.00, valid for 30 days.
- Launching permit for a small boat (rubber duck): M360.00, valid for 30 days.
- Fishing permit per angler (exclude fishing from the beach): M420.00, valid for 30 days.
- Paddle ski: M45.00, valid for 30 days.
- Jet Ski permit: M200.00, valid for 30 days. Jet Skis are only allowed north of Zavora Lodge boundary. They are not allowed in the bathing areas or the bay. Life jackets to be worn at all times!
- Monthly fishing licenses: Deep sea M420.00 (R117.00), Spear fishing M520.00 (R145.00)
- You are allowed to keep 2kg Shellfish and 2kg Fish (fillets) per person. Should you require extra obtain a permit that allows you to carry 6kg extra (fish fillets/ shellfish flesh)

TRAVELLING TIPS
Vehicles
- The original vehicle (and trailer) registration form must be carried with you.
- Where the vehicle is financed, you must get a letter from the financing company authorizing you to take the vehicle to Mozambique.
- Valid Third Party Insurance is imperative, to be obtained at the border post. Cost for insurance R150.00 and for a trailer R80.00
- All South African vehicles must have a ZA sticker on them, as well as a yellow triangle on a blue background displayed on them.
- Watch out for areas where there is a solid white line as officials also like to fine the tourist when one or two wheels – especially on the wide trailers, - go over the middle line.
- A vehicle may tow a trailer with up to two axles provided the length of the vehicle and trailer is 13m, but the length must not exceed 19m. The width of the trailer may be 2.6m and the trailer can be 4m high.
- At police checkpoints you may be required to show your drivers license.
- Speeding laws are strictly enforced. Please obey the speed limits.
- Caution! Obey the speed restrictions through the villages and wear your safety belt. Traffic officers enforce these laws very strictly!
- Red or blue vehicle triangles must be placed in front of your vehicle.
- We suggest you fill up at the major towns such as Maputo and Xai Xai. Inharrime also has a regular supply of fuel, as well as 95 unleaded.
Visas
South African citizens no longer require visas, with the duration of stay being limited to 30 days. For other nationalities, please contact the Mozambique Embassy for further details. Pay attention to the duration of your stay!
Currency
Banks are available in the major towns to exchange money. Local currency (Meticais) can be withdrawn at ATMs in Maputo, Xai Xai, Inhambane.
Shopping
Very limited shopping facilities are available 27km from Zavora Lodge at Inharrime.
Medical emergencies
A clinic can be found at Inharrime. Hospitals and doctors are available in Xai Xai and Inhambane. Zavora Lodge has a basic first aid kit for emergencies.
Malaria
Take proper precautions against malaria. Prophylactics, mosquito coils and insect repellent spray are strongly recommended.
DIRECTIONS & DISTANCES
To get there one travels about 10km North of Inharrime on the ENI main road, turning right at the Zavora Lodge sign. After 17km along a reasonable dirt road one arrives at Zavora Lodge.
