NATURE, WILDLIFE & BIRDLIFEThe area has a rich variety of plant life with more than 2015 plant species occurring in the Waterberg region, including about 130 tree species. Many shrub, grasses and fern species are amongst the wonderful flora of this bushveld region. The Lephalale river which flows past Witwater Safari Lodge, hosts about 34 indigenous species of fish (2 are on the red data list) The wildlife of the Waterberg is prolific and includes numerous insect species, more than 130 butterfly species and many reptile species, like the endemic girdled lizard. Witwater has many mammal species including the rare roan antelope, white rhino, cheetah, leopard, red hartebeest, blue wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, kudu, impala, warthog and eland amongst others. Many smaller mammal species are also often sighted like duiker, steenbok, mongoose, bushbabies and others.
