ABOUT MONATE GAME LODGE
Monate is set in a private Game Reserve, home to Leopard,
Cheetah, Buffalo, Hippo, Rhino, Brown Hyena, Crocodile,
Caracal and Jackal as well as a large variety of antelope
such as Giraffe, Kudu, Eland, Waterbuck and Nyala.
Being close to the Nylsvlei Nature Conservancy, a birding
paradise, home to 46% of the bird species in Southern
Africa, birding is prolific on the reserve with many
new sightings reported.

ACCOMMODATION
Main Lodge
Nestled in manicured gardens, the rustic Monate family
suites and rooms offer an opportunity to indulge in
a peaceful and relaxing environment. With all the amenities
& necessities at one's reach, each air-conditioned
room also has its own spacious full en-suite bathroom.
Luxury Tented Suites
Ideal for honeymooners and executives are our distinct
Hampton and Rushton Tented Suites, decorated in a sophisticated
blend of both Chinese and Colonial antiques, each with
open access to a private sundeck and pool, oozing complete
luxury in an environment where pampering and attention
to detail is absolute.
Hampton Luxury Tent
Evenings are an elegant affair with candles, soft music,
open boma fire & starry skies. Canvas walls reveal
bush & wild life, the ideal accommodation to be
at one with nature. This suite accommodates two adults
sharing with a roll-top bath that extends to an outdoor
shower, overlooking a waterhole. There's no need
for air-conditioning being rustic with a thatched roof,
making this a memorable open-air retreat.
Rushton Luxury Tent
This exclusive & luxurious destination maintains
a high level of privacy combined with intimate service,
suited to those who enjoy being spoiled. Rushton can
accommodate 4 adults sharing in two beautiful bedrooms
each with its own full en-suite bathroom & air-conditioning.
The indoor fire place proves to be the perfect spot

to tantalize your taste buds, specializing from venison

such as our unique natural cave, various bush venues
or around the lodge camp fire.
LODGE ACTIVITIES
Choices are endless... Horse trails are popular and
thoroughly enjoyed by beginners and experienced riders
alike. Frolic on the trampolines or play a game of swing-ball,
table tennis or putt-putt. For the more energetic there's
the volley ball court, our fully equipped gym or release
some energy with clay pigeon shooting! Naturally the
jacuzzi & 2 swimming pools are ideal for those who
choose to embark on total relaxation!
Our professional and enthusiastic Game Rangers keep
guests intrigued during early morning & afternoon
game drives, exploring the various habitats and their
many inhabitants. Share their knowledge about our Cheetah
Re-wilding (in conjunction with de Wildt) and Brown
Hyena research projects.

HORSEBACK SAFARIS
Our horseback safaris provide a unique opportunity
to experience a variety of game species, vegetation,
thick woodlands and rocky outcrops. Horse rides are
scheduled for three hours and one can stop and enjoy
a bush breakfast or luncheon.
The horses at Monate are accustomed to game and suitable
to ensure experienced riders an exciting and unforgettable
excursion. Beginner courses are available on request.
WILDLIFE
Monate is home to a variety of wildlife species and
amongst the many animal species that occur here are:
Aardvark, African Wildcat, Brown Hyaena, Civet, Cheetah,
Chacma Baboon, Blue Wildebeest, Burchell's Zebra, Bush
Pig, Bushbuck, Buffalo, Eland, Giraffe, Gemsbok, Hippopotamus,
Honey Badger, Impala, Kudu, Klipspringer, Lesser Bush
Baby, Nyala, Ostrich, Porcupine, Red Hartebeest, Steenbok,
Vervet Monkey, Warthog, Waterbuck, Leopard and White
Rhinoceros.
CHEETAH REHABILITATION PROGRAM
Monate Private Game Lodge has been privileged to be
allocated the Cheetah Rehabilitation Program in association
with De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Trust as well as
the Mazda Wildlife Fund.
This is a prestigious project designed to rehabilitate
orphaned Cheetahs back into the wild and Monate was
chosen over many reserves to run the pilot project.
Ongoing monitoring will record their progress, giving
valuable statistics for future programs. Come and experience
the magic of Monate and see them in the wild for yourself.
BROWN HYAENA RESEARCH PROJECT
The Brown Hyaena is one of the many species that finds
itself on the IUCN’s Redlist. Being listed as
a near threatened species means that there is a global
population of fewer than 10,000 mature individuals.
Unfortunately as a predator they are often misunderstood
and persecuted in farming areas.
Project Phiri is a project run by Dr. Richard Yarnell
and Dr. Dawn Scott. The Project, which Monate is involved
in, aims to study populations and their effect on the
environment. We have been involved in the research since
March 2008 and the Hyaenas are regularly seen, even
at the lodge.
BIRDLIFE
Birdlife is prolific, with many rare specimens including
African fish eagle, the endangered Black heron, Chinspot
Batis, African Scops Owl, White-faced Owl, African Grass
Owl, African Jacana, Comb Duck, Francolin, Spurfowl,
Gymnogene, Hamerkop, Hornbills, Lapwings, Secretary
Bird, Violet-eared Waxbill, Black Stork, and Fiery-necked
Nightjar to name but a few.
TREE SPECIES
Amongst the variety of flora at Monate there are numerous
tree species including Acacia, Broad-leaved Rock Fig,
Large-fruited Bushwillow, Marula, Tambotie, Transvaal
Milk Plum, Spiny-leaved Monkey Orange, Velvet Raisin
and Wild Syringa. |
