ABOUT THE MAGOEBASKLOOF CANOPY TOUR
The Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour® is run by Magoebaskloof
Adventures, which takes the whole concept one step further
as thirteen platforms have all been individually designed
and built overlooking the spectacular Groot Letaba River.
Journey through the ecology and geology of one of the
most spectacular waterfall gorges in Limpopo province.
The Letaba River gorge is adorned with wild flowers
and orchids, and provides the perfect setting to see
a host of colourful butterfly species, a wide variety
of plantlife as well as interesting animal and birdlife.
The Giant Kingfisher too is a common sight as it flies
up the river.
Guests of the Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour will certainly
not fail to discover something new every time they visit
this unique tour!
MAGOEBASKLOOF CANOPY TOUR - THE ACTIVITY
Experience the thrill of sliding through the forest
on a Tarzan and Jane style adventure! Canopy Tours take
people up into a previously inaccessible realm of nature
whereby platforms built high within the upper level
of indigenous forests or against the cliffs of ancient
mountains are joined by spectacular ‘foefie’
type cable slides high above the forest floor. Enjoy
flying along the slides or spend a few minutes relaxing
and absorbing the tranquility of your natural surroundings
while on each of the platforms.
Trained canopy guides ensure the safety of each group
while describing interesting facts about the fauna,
flora and ecology of the surrounding environment.
The Magoebaskloof Canopy tour is made up of 11 slides
and a swing bridge between 13 platforms which are built
on the side of the cliff faces and between the trees
in the indigenous forest.
The slides vary in length from 15m to 150m with heights
above the spectacular river varying from 5m to 50m as
you work your way down the Letaba River Gorge. 3 magnificent
and unique waterfalls can only be truly appreciated
from this vantage point. Not to mention the rare river
capture phenomenon.
Each platform offers breathtaking views and with names
like Judgement Day, Cliffhanger, Back to Nature, Soul
Searcher and Butterfly Stairs, they each have their
own story to tell.
Spot the Giant Kingfisher, Red-winged Starling and
many other riverine forest birds. Animals include Vervet
and Samango monkeys in the Yellowwood trees, baboons
walking on the cliff ledges and if you are lucky, a
shy bushbuck! Spray from the waterfalls encourages moss,
lichen and orchids to grow on wild Rock Fig and Matume
trees whose roots protrude and squeeze through the cracks
in the rocks.
With a high emphasis on safety, qualified trained guides
ensure that even those weary of heights will feel safe
and secure at all times to maximise the experience.
Whether you’re in it for the thrill of the slides
or to appreciate the spectacular fauna, flora and surroundings,
this wonderful experience is suitable for everyone from
the ages of 7-70. Bring your friends, family, work colleagues
or school mates!
