An incredible wilderness and wildlife experience!

LOCATION

Kwa-Tuli Private Game Reserve is situated in Botswana, Southern Africa, in the heart of the Northern Tuli Block. It is part of the greater Limpopo-Shashe Transfrontier Park, a remote, private and unspoiled African wildlife reserve, offering some of the most incredible wildlife and wilderness experiences you will find in Southern Africa.

Kwa-Tuli is just across the border from South Africa and it's southern boundary is the great Limpopo River.

It is between 5 and 6 hours drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.

ABOUT KWA-TULI

Accommodation is self-catering. The main lodge and luxury tented accommodation of Island Camp is in a unique setting on an island in the Limpopo river. The camp can only be reached by a hanging bridge.

Guests may set their own pace with game drives in open 4 X 4 vehicles, and guided walking safaris.

The wildlife at Kwa-Tuli is fascinating. Besides Elephants and a variety of predators, Kudu and Eland and all the plains game dot the valley while bushbuck and waterbuck feed on the island. Amongst others, Zebra, Wildebeest and Giraffe visit the many waterholes.

Hides near waterholes give guests the opportunity to observe and photograph animals close up in their natural environment without disturbance.

ACCOMMODATION

Island Camp

Reached by a hanging bridge on an island in the middle of the Limpopo River is an exclusive hideaway called "Island Camp".

Nestled under the thick canopy of the riverine forest, eternally shaded from the African sun lies four luxurious tents. The tents are large and roomy with an "Out of Africa" feel with colonial furniture and thick-feathered duvets.

Each tent has its own beautiful bathroom with a Slipper bath and huge outdoor shower.

Private viewing decks allow guests to enjoy the fascinating secrets of the wildlife that visits the surrounding river.

The fully equipped kitchen, dining room and lounge with a build-in fireplace are under thatch, with the Boma under open skies for dining under the stars.

One of "Island Camp" highlights is the wonderful sounds. In summer the roaring of the surrounding river and in winter the pre-dawn of bird songs starts of the morning. Accompanied by the haunting cries of the Fish Eagle, Baboons bark and screech and Hippo’s grunt. Elephants wonder past at night trumpeting and breaking branches with a rifle crack.

Finally get to sleep under the soothing calls of "Pel's Fishing" and "Scops Owls".

WILDLIFE

The area is renowned for the largest, single population of elephant on privately owned land in Africa. Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and all the major predators can be seen in this region.

The reserve's southern boundary is the great Limpopo River. Hippo and Crocodiles concentrate in the deeper pools while leopard hunt baboons on the forested islands.

Nocturnal animals such as Hyena, Porcupine, Aardvark, Civet, Genet and Bush baby can be observed on the night drives.

Birding

Kwa-Tuli offers excellent birding. Pel's Fishing Owl, Ground Hornbill and Doublebanded Coursers are some of the 360 species of birds to be seen.

Nature

Besides the islands, there are magnificent rocky outcrops that can be explored on foot.

Sundowners can be taken on numerous spots on top of granite koppies, only a short walk from the vehicles. What is more spectacular than the sun setting over the African landscape?

Historic and archeological sites abound, unchanged since the days of early explorers such as Selous, Kipling and Cecil John Rhodes.

The call of the Fish Eagle by day and Pets Fishing Owl at night sets the mood for this wild African experience.

ACTIVITIES AT KWA-TULI

Early morning and evening game drives in an open 4X4 takes you into the heart of the reserve on a wild adventure. Guided bush walks on the islands reveals the sounds of the bush and smell of oil lamps sets the mood for an authentic African Safari. We offer:
  • Game drives
  • Night drives
  • Guided Island Walks
  • Birding
  • Fishing
  • Walking Trails
  • Visits to traditional Tswana Villages, Rock Art & Solomon's Wall

Set your own pace by choosing from the included activities, or just enjoy the tranquility.

KORO CAMP - EDUCATIONAL

From this camp the Tuli Conservation Project is being run.

It is an exciting unique opportunity to get deeply involved in conservation work. Long term study of both the Elephant and Leopard populations within the reserve are now a reality. The emphasis at Koro is not to be a spectator in conservation but to be a participant.

The students will study tracking and learn about the bush and Fauna and Flora, as well as collecting essential data on animals both large and small. This data is recorded in daily, weekly and monthly reports. Key information includes interesting and unusual sightings, bird lists and raptor recordings, predator track and mortality records, weather and climate data. Leopard and Elephants sightings have been phenomenal.

The exciting venture is in partnership with African Conservation Experience. If this seem appealing to you contact African Conservation Experience at info@conservat.africa.net
