Hongonyi Private Game Lodge and Wildlife Reserve is situated in Limpopo Province, near Hoedspruit and close to Orpen, Kruger National Park, in the heart of the Central Lowveld.

ABOUT HONGONYI PRIVATE GAME LODGE

Set deep in the African bush, Hongonyi Private Game Lodge and wildlife reserve is a safe haven to many of the African antelope species as well as four of the big six. Hongonyi, with its refreshingly different ambience and informal relaxed atmosphere, offers the wildlife enthusiast many photo opportunities and wonderful sightings, at affordable rates. It's a bird watchers paradise and a photographers dream.

Hongonyi Private Game Lodge has received several awards and amongst others was a Semi Finalist (and highly recommended) in 2006 & 2007, AA Accommodation Awards.

There is no special routine at Hongonyi and rest and relaxation is encouraged, with every effort being made to provide guests with their own unique bush experience. Should guests desire, they may be awakened early for a leisurely morning walking safari on the reserve and upon their return a mid morning full English breakfast is served.

Hongonyi, is well placed to visit other places of interest in the area, or guests can soak up the 'soul' of Africa whilst relaxing in a hammock or on the viewing deck. Watch wildlife at the nearby 'watering hole' or take a dip in the pool and simply enjoy the peacefulness of Africa.

The climate is warm to tropical with summer temperature of +- 32ºC from November to March and +- 24ºC day temperature during the winter months between May and August, evenings are a bit cooler.

But Hongonyi is not just about the African Bush, the beautiful birds, wildflowers, animals & trees it's also about the people who look after Hongonyi. A group of dedicated hard working men and women, who have become like family and most of whom have been with Hongonyi since it started in the year 2000. They are the friendliest and most warm hearted people in Africa , they'll sing and dance for you, they'll make sure you are comfortable and that your stay with them is pleasant and filled with laughter. You won't find better anywhere else!

ACCOMMODATION

With 14 delightfully comfortable en-suite twin bedrooms, and a cosy Honeymoon suite, surrounded by tropical gardens, Hongonyi ensures the ultimate in rest and relaxation.

Rooms are equipped with overhead fans and insect screens to protect you from the African heat, and to ensure a perfect night's sleep.

A scrumptious breakfast served under thatch, awaits you after the unforgettable adventures on an early morning bush walk.

Spend the rest of the day at leisure around the swimming pool, on the viewing deck, playing chess in the bush lounge or simply relax in a garden hammock under the shade of the famous Amarula tree, from which the Amarula cream liqueur is made.

CUISINE

Delicious home cooked meals and traditional South African braai's are enjoyed under the African sky as the ambience continues to enchant and bewitch you after a wonderful evening / night drive.

Pleasure is found in the warmth of great friendships around a log fire while listening to the real sounds of Africa , the roar of the Lion, and the bark of the Hyena that electrifies the air as they roam around the reserve at night. It's An African Adventure of Distinction!

WILDLIFE

Witness Africa’s most glorious sunsets with sundowners on an evening game drive in an open 4 x 4 safari vehicle, and experience the thrill of close encounters with our big game, especially Rhino, Buffalo, Leopard, Cheetah and Spotted Hyena. Enjoy exhilarating sunrise safaris on foot with experienced guides who are eager to part with their knowledge of the African bush, and show some of the smaller wonders that nature has provided, including the ’little five’ namely; The Ant Lion, Elephant Shrew, Leopard Tortoise, Redbilled Buffalo Weaver Bird and Rhinoceros Beetle - depending on the seasons.

Enjoy the abundant bird life, butterflies, dragonflies and colourful arrays of wild flowers that mingle with the fragrances of the African bush. Night sightings of the elusive Bush Baby, Serval, Civet and Aardvark add to the romance of a full moon in the evening sky, or the millions of stars that surround and comfort us on a dark African night.

A 'sundowner' game drive will find one seeing animals up close and personal, tracking the Cheetah, admiring the beautiful eyelashes of the Giraffe or being awestruck by the magnificent horns of the Kudu bulls. Being totally enchanted by the prehistoric Rhino and lastly but not least watching as the sun sets behind the Drakensberg Mountains . Listen to the roar of the Lions, the bark of Hyena or the howl of the Jackal as they prowl the reserve whilst enjoying your evening meal around a large open fire in the 'Boma' under the African stars.
