ABOUT FOURIESBURG COUNTRY INN
Several years ago, after pursuing a career in engineering
and teaching respectively, both Clive and Martie Craig
agreed that it was time to make a change. They decided
to opt out of the hustle and bustle of city life and
to retreat to the peace and tranquility of this haven
in the Eastern Free State.
The Fouriesburg Hotel was established in 1892. When
we bought the hotel in October 1995, we changed the
name to the Fouriesburg Country Inn. With the name
change, we began to develop our ideal of a real country
inn, with country cooking, country furniture and ambience
of a total country experience together with good old-fashioned
country hospitality.
Besides accommodation and tours, we specialise in
weddings, anniversaries, christenings, birthday parties,
year-end functions, conferences and seminars.

ABOUT FOURIESBURG
Fouriesburg was proclaimed a town in 1892 deriving its name from the
many families with the name of Fourie who were living in the area.
The original Fourie was Mr Rooi Stoffel Fourie, owner of the farm Groenfontein.
During the Anglo Boer War Fouriesburg was proclaimed the Capital
of the Orange Free State. The proclamation was printed
on a field printing press "Di Skoorsteenki" and has
never been rescinded.
Fouriesburg is situated in the Eastern Free State. It is 50km from
Bethlehem and 50km from Ficksburg. The Town is surrounded by the Maluti
mountains and is only 10 km from the Lesotho border.
The elevation
is 1627m above sea level. The nearby peak of Visierskerf
in the Witteberge is the second highest mountain peak in the Free
State and is the seventh
highest in the country.
The natural beauty of the town's surroundings is magnificent. The
beauty can be seen particularly so on the road from Fouriesburg to
Clarens and through the Golden Gate National Park.
Fouriesburg allows you to begin or end the scenic Roof of Arica route,
through Lesotho, the Eastern Free State and KwaZulu-Natal.
We look forward to welcome you at Fouriesburg Country Inn!
