LOCATION

Buffelshoek Camp is located in Manyeleti Game Reserve, sharing unfenced borders with Kruger National Park and Sabie Sand Game Reserve. Buffelshoek Camp is a rustic, self-catering tented camp, part of the African Ivory Route and a prime Big Five destination, with the nearest town of Hoedspruit in Limpopo Province.

ACCOMMODATION

Buffelshoek Camp is located in the South of Manyaleti Game Reserve near the unfenced border with Sabie Sand Reserve.

It is a rustic, self-catering tented camp.

The 5 x Safari tents are en-suite with shower, basin and enviro-toilet and each is equipped with two beds and mattresses.

A communal kitchen with basic facilities, including a gas stove, fridge, plates and mugs, chairs, tables and eating utensils are provided. Staff members will be on hand to assist visitors.

Note! Since bedding is only supplied at an additional charge, it may be advisable to bring your own bedding or sleeping bag.

Please note!
This is a rustic self-catering camp with basic accommodation and other basic facilities. There is no electricty. As such it is perhaps more suitable for those that love the outdoors and adventure. This camp is ideal for a single group that reserves the entire camp, as the cooking and kitchen amenities are communal and have to be shared by all visitors, often at the same times.

ABOUT BUFFELSHOEK CAMP & MANYALETI GAME RESERVE

Buffelshoek Camp is situated in the 23 000 ha provincial game reserve of Manyeleti and shares unfenced boundaries with both Kruger National Park through Orpen Gate and Sabie Sand Private Nature Reserve.

Your experience of the African bush will not get more up close and personal than this! Big game often walks right past the camp so keep an eye out so that you don't miss anything!

On a clear cloudless night, you will see why Manyeleti, which means “place of stars”, is indeed an appropriate name for this Reserve.

Buffelshoek camp is an excellent base for viewing the Big Five on guided walks, game drives or from the comfort of the camp.

THINGS TO DO

Self-drive in Manyeleti is confined to a skeleton road network.

Typical activities whilst staying at Buffelshoek Camp:

  • Guided game drives in the open vehicles around the reserve ensure excellent game viewing
  • Night drives expose the nocturnal activities of the bush as interpreted and explained by the qualified guides. Spotlights are used after dark to locate the predators as they begin their nocturnal wanderings
  • A visit to the large dam in the central area of Manyaleti, in search of the ever-present herds of Elephant and Buffalo, is highly recommended
  • Birding is excellent in the area
  • For those that just want to relax in camp, you can soak up the sounds and smells of the bush over a cup of coffee or a good book
  • While at the camp during the day, big game sightings are often better close to camp than they are on the game drives
  • For the adventurous, guided game walks give you an up-close encounter with the big Five, other mammals and the flora of this magic part of Greater Kruger, enhanced by the interesting stories, interpretations & explanations of your African Ivory Route guide
  • Around the campfire by night or in the camp during the day is when you will truly appreciate Buffelshoek, it is the time when the night sounds of the African bush come alive
  • Stargazing - on a clear night you will see why Manyaleti means - Place of Stars

ABOUT THE AFRICAN IVORY ROUTE

The African Ivory Route in the Limpopo Province has its origins in the legendary exploits of early ivory hunters and gold traders.

Thus the African Ivory Route was established with the adventure traveller in mind. A selection of unique and off the beaten track destinations were therefore a more important consideration than ease of access.

The African Ivory Route covers vast expanses of natural bush and mountain ranges with breath-taking scenery, abundant wildlife and cultural richness.

It is an ideal destination for the safari, adventure and cultural enthusiast.
