Morukuru Ocean House in the De Hoop Nature Reserve, Western Cape, is an ultra-luxurious, exclusive use oceanfront house with spectacular views.
Morukuru Ocean House is a luxurious 4-bedroom house with a beautiful panoramic ocean view, situated in the pristine De Hoop Nature Reserve. Ocean House offers exclusive use of the entire house which comes with a private butler, chef and guide.
Guests have the opportunity to partake in private activities with personal experts, bringing guests the very best that there is to offer at De Hoop Nature Reserve. There are no set schedules at Morukuru Ocean House, as the guests themselves are the masters of their stay.
De Hoop Nature Reserve offers 51 kilometer's of pristine white beaches and is an ideal venue to view whales. Southern Right whales migrate to the shallow coastal basins off the Overberg Coast for the calving and nursing season, reaching our shores usually during June and staying until about November.
Morukuru Ocean House situated in the De Hoop Nature Reserve is approximately 3 hours by road from Cape Town.

WILDLIFE & NATURE
Morukuru Ocean House is situated in the De Hoop Nature Reserve.
The Marine Protected Area of the De Hoop Nature Reserve, which extends three nautical miles out to sea, is one of the largest marine protected areas in Africa, providing a sanctuary for a vast and fascinating array of marine life.
The entire length of the De Hoop coast is a Marine Protected Area, and you are likely to see the finest examples of inter-tidal ecosystems in the Western Cape when snorkelling in the Atlantic Ocean’s large, clear rock pools.
The Marine Protected Area encompasses the breeding grounds of the southern right whale. It is estimated that more than 130 individual whales return to the waters of De Hoop Nature Reserve every year to calve and mate. The sight of these massive mammals breaching is definitely one of the highlights of a visit to Morukuru Ocean House.
Marine mammals such as dolphins and seals occur in the waters off the coast, and southern right whales calve and mate in the sheltered bays each year between May and December. At least 250 species of fish occur.
De Hoop Nature Reserve forms part of the world’s smallest and most threatened plant kingdom - the Cape Floral Kingdom. Fynbos is the dominant vegetation within this kingdom – largely confined to nutrient-poor soils in the winter rainfall areas of the Western Cape. The Bredasdorp / Agulhas and Cape Infanta area, which De Hoop is a part of, has an estimated 1500 plant species of the approximately 9000 species found in the Cape Floristic Region. Of these 1500 species, 34 species occur only on De Hoop Nature Reserve. 14 species were recently discovered and are still undescribed.
The reserve has 86 mammal species, most notably the rare Bontebok and Cape mountain zebra, as well as Eland, Grey rhebok, Baboon, Yellow mongoose, Caracal and the occasional Leopard.
De Hoop is famous for its variety of resident and migratory bird species and more than 260 species have been recorded on the reserve. The De Hoop vlei attracts large numbers of water birds and the only remaining Western Cape breeding colony of the rare Cape vulture occurs at Potberg.

The Morukuru Ocean House is, just like the group's other houses in the Madikwe Game Reserve (Owner’s House, River House and Farm House), part of the unique Morukuru Family Experience.
LOCATION
Morukuru Ocean House is situated in the De Hoop Nature Reserve and is approximately three hour’s drive from Cape Town on the famous Garden Route and Whale Route. Set in the Overberg region, it can be approached from either Bredasdorp or Swellendam.
