The Bush House in Madikwe Game Reserve, is managed by the owners and has excellent service, luxury accommodation and scrumptious meals. On the dawn and dusk safaris, guests will have the opportunity to view a wide variety of wildlife species, amongst others the Big 5 in a malaria free reserve.

It is about 4 hours’ drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation consists of six beautifully appointed en-suite rooms. The bathrooms have separate baths and showers with a variety of toiletries.

ABOUT THE BUSH HOUSE

The owner managed luxury Bush House is located on the South-western side of the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve. This informal lodge encourages guests to kick of their shoes, relax and simply unwind. It is a home away from home and a personal, friendly atmosphere is guaranteed.

Besides a cozy lounge and pub, reading area and TV lounge with DSTV, there is a rock swimming pool and lovely garden. The very active waterhole in front of the lodge is floodlit at night for 24/7 viewing.

CHILDREN

Children of all ages are welcome at the Bush House and special game drives are provided for the children that are too young to go out on adult drives. Baby-sitting can be arranged on request.

WILDLIFE AND NATURE RELATED ACTIVITIES

It is perfectly safe to walk freely around the immediate area of The Bush House camp area as it is fully fenced with an electric fence, also making it ideal for children to play on the lawn.

Activities at The Bush House include:

Early morning and late afternoon / early evening safari game viewing drives in an open vehicle.
On request, bush walks under supervision of experienced Field Guides / Rangers are conducted.

Underground Game Viewing Hide

The underground game viewing hide is the only one of its kind in Madikwe. It overlooks the waterhole in front of the lodge and can comfortably seat 4 people with additional standing room for 4 - 6 people. Guests are able to sit at eye level to the waterhole and it is wheelchair friendly.

The hide is the brainchild of Gordon and Sue Morrison, the owners of The Bush House. With strict specifications from the construction engineer it took 3 months to complete and has proven to be a massive success with guests staying at The Bush House.

The Bush House has one of the most productive waterholes in Madikwe and a host of animals have been viewed to date on a few occasions. Lions, leopards, wild dogs, rhino, herds of elephant and buffalo, zebra, brown hyena, warthogs and spotted hyena to name a few. The waterhole is illuminated at night and 24 hour game viewing can be enjoyed.

WILDLIFE & BIRDLIFE

Madikwe Game Reserve is one of South Africa's sought after safari destinations. The rich diversity of vegetation ensures an abundance of game species and the habitat offers ideal wildlife viewing opportunities.

Home to more than 66 mammal species including the Big Five, the endangered Wild dog and Cheetah are also found here.

More than 350 resident and migrant bird species have been recorded in the area.

LOCATION & ACCESS

Access to The Bush House is through the Wonderboom Gate of Madikwe Game Reserve, with the access road only 300m from the reserve entrance. Travelling time from Gauteng to the Lodge is approximately 4 hours by road.

Air transfers from Grand Central Airport or Johannesburg International Airport are available.
