Thakadu River Camp is a luxury tented camp in Madikwe Game Reserve. Overlooking the Marico River, it is an ideal bush breakaway and a favourite amongst visitors to the reserve, which is malaria free. Amongst many other wildlife species, Madikwe Game Reserve is home to Wild Dog, Cheetah and the Big 5. It is situated in North West Province and about 4 hours’ drive from Johannesburg, or about an hour's flight.

ACCOMMODATION

Thakadu River Camp can accommodate 24 guests in 12 luxury safari tents which are well positioned, large and spacious. The interior is uniquely designed to incorporate a full bathroom. Each tent has a sliding door that opens onto a private deck overlooking the river.

ACTIVITIES

Thakadu River Camp is a popular safari destination and has well qualified and experienced Field Guides on hand to interpret the many wildlife encounters whilst on a game viewing safari drive.

Safari game drives are conducted early morning and afternoon / evening in open game-viewing vehicles.

Regrettably, due to safety concerns, children under 6 years of age are unable to participate in game-drives or game walks. Kiddies drives (about one and a half hours) can be arranged usually after breakfast, for children under 6 years of age and the parents / family are welcome to join.

WILDLIFE, BIRDLIFE & NATURE

Madikwe is home to a tremendous diversity of fauna and flora, including rhino, buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog.

Thakadu River Camp offers superb walking and open vehicle safari drives. Guests are accompanied by well-trained and informative rangers who are able to interpret the many encounters whilst on safari.

DIRECTIONS

Situated in the Madikwe Game Reserve, access to the lodge is either by road or by air.

It is about 4 hours' drive from Johannesburg via the N4.
