Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the central eastern region of Madikwe Game Reserve, a malaria free game reserve with a rich biodiversity of wildlife. Visitors staying at the magnificent Madikwe Safari Lodge will experience a true African Safari, with delectable cuisine and personal service.

It is about 4½ hours from Johannesburg by road.

ACCOMMODATION

Madikwe Safari Lodge offers exceptional luxury accommodation and consists of three separate private lodges with 20 luxury suites. Lelapa, Dithaba and Kopano offers luxury accommodation and a choice to stay together as a family, group of friends, or to have a more private bush experience as a couple.

Lelapa Lodge

Lelapa which means family in the local dialect and accommodates 24 guests in 12 luxurious suites. Children of all ages are welcome at Lelapa Lodge.

Kopano Lodge

Kopano comprises of four luxury suites, offering an intimate and private experience for 8 guests. Unfortunately no children can be accommodated at Kopano Lodge.

Dithaba Lodge

Dithaba, meaning mountain in the local dialect, is located slightly higher up on the mountain and has incredible views over the open plains. It has only 4 suites, accommodating 8 guests and is well suited for a group of friends or family. Dithaba Lodge has to be booked exclusively to accommodate children.

Families on Safari

Children of all ages are welcome at Madikwe Safari Lodge's Lelapa Lodge. There are various activities available for children including:

Family safari drives
Bush orientation
Bug CSI
Dung tracking
Baking in the kitchen
Making pizzas in the boma
Star gazing
Games nights, and much more

Game drives for children

Unfortunately children under the age of two years are not allowed on game drives. Children between the age of two and five are only allowed on the late morning family safari drive. The family safari drive for children lasts approximately two hours.

Game drives for children last about an hour, depending on the age of the child and how well they behave on the vehicle.

GAME VIEWING

The Big 5 and regular sightings of zebra, Impala, wildebeest, giraffe, warthog, white rhino, lion, wild dog, elephant, white rhino, brown hyena, and spotted hyena can be seen. Leopard, along with Buffalo and Black Rhino sightings are becoming more frequent.

Game viewing activities:

Early morning and late afternoon/evening safari game drives in open game viewing vehicles, accompanied by Field Guides/ professional game rangers.
Bush walks accompanied by professional Field Guides / game rangers can be arranged.

WEDDINGS

Both larger and intimate safari weddings are hosted at the different private lodges. Wedding party numbers may be limited due to the lodge size.

A honeymoon at Madikwe Safari Lodge is a unique romantic experience. Suites are private and spaciously equipped with their own private swimming pool.

WILDLIFE, BIRDLIFE & NATURE

Madikwe Game Reserve is home to a variety of wildlife, including Africa’s Big Five and cheetah, wild dog, brown and spotted hyena, oryx, eland, springbok and ostrich amongst others.

It is a paradise for bird lovers with over 350 species recorded.

LOCATION & ACCESS

Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the central eastern region of Madikwe Game Reserve and is accessible through the Derdepoort gate. The lodge is about 4½ hours from Johannesburg by road.
