The owners of Etali, Koos and Susan Potgieter, whom are involved with the daily planning and management of the lodge as well as the dedicated staff of Etali, offers outstanding service with personal attention, making sure that your visit is one to fondly remember.
Madikwe Game Reserve is in North West Province, on the border of South Africa with Botswana and is about 4 hours” drive from Johannesburg.
ACCOMMODATION
Etali's accommodation comprises of eight double thatched luxury suites, each with its own en-suite bathroom. The suites each have a private deck with a spectacular view of the surrounding bush, and is also fitted with a private heated whirlpool.
The family suite consists of two spacious rooms, no outside showers and only one whirl pool for the two rooms, a shared deck and a plunge pool. Per special arrangement, extra beds can be provided in the suites to accommodate children sharing with parents.
All the suites are set apart from each other for utmost privacy.
Please note that accommodation at Etali is all-inclusive and no self-catering options are available.

CHILDREN
Children of all ages are welcome at Etali Safari Lodge.
Please note that children under the age of 6 are not allowed on morning and evening normal game drives as part of park regulations. Etali offers the youngest guests a bumble drive after breakfast. Rangers then concentrate on smaller things with the children, they do plaster of paris imprints of tracks, discuss medicinal and other uses for trees and grass, and let them in on many other secrets of the bush and the inhabitants thereof. Etali has wonderful babysitters to take care of the children.
CUISINE
Etali has been named in the 100 best restaurants in South Africa and offers fine dining as well as traditional meals in the lesaka (traditional Tswana kraal next to the water hole). Etali caters for any dietary needs including kosher and halaal. Etali's delectable cuisine is a contemporary fusion of traditional African with an Asian twist - a re-invention of gourmet dining in the bush.
Excellent wines are selected throughout South Africa to accompany your meal.
WILDLIFE RELATED ACTIVITIES
Game Drives
Safari game viewing drives are conducted in an open vehicles specially designed to ensure your comfort and safety. A maximum of eight people in the vehicle ensures that guests receive the guide’s individual attention and enjoy an unforgettable experience in the African bush.
Spontaneous drives may also go out in response to animal activity near the lodge. If lions roar near the camp during dinner, expect an invitation from your guide to go into the night in search of them.
Subject to availability and at an additional cost, you may request the sole use of a game viewing vehicle and guide.
Etali’s highly qualified Field Guides have an in-depth knowledge of African flora, fauna, natural history and ecology. Field Guides and Rangers work in conjunction with Trackers to find game.
Bush Walks
Walking along game paths while Etali’s experienced and armed ranger guides explain the medicinal value of trees and plants and the magical powers often attributed to them, identify grass and bird species and follow in the footsteps of animals. Bush walks can be requested by prior arrangement.
Star gazing
African night skies in the bush are something very special. Enrich your stay at Etali with an evening of stargazing. Planets, galaxies and star clusters all look spectacular through Etali’s telescope in the dark skies of the bushveld.
Spa & Wellness Centre
The Wellness Centre at Etali Safari Lodge offers a choice of relaxing and rejuvenating therapies which can be enjoyed in the tranquillity of the cool thatched building whilst listening to soothing music or the sound of the bush or indulge in a massage on the private deck of your suite, while watching the sun set over the magnificent rich red soil planes of Madikwe.
A wide range of treatments are available using local products containing rooibos tea, marula, African Potato and Aloe Vera.
WEDDINGS & EVENTS
Etali hosts small intimate wedding ceremonies as well as business events such as small corporate conferences, functions and meetings, which are designed around the needs and requirements of each request. These functions typically occupy the full lodge and only open to guests of these events.

Etali Safari Lodge was developed in 2002 by the owners, Koos and Susan Potgieter. Their main aim was to develop and create a Luxury Safari Experience with a strong sense of empathy to nature. With their love of nature and the wild African bush they created an environment where guests can also experience the same appreciation of the creation they have the privilege of experiencing every day.
Each guest is special and treated as an individual. The owners have a hands-on involvement with the daily management and operations of the lodge while enjoying the company of their guests. Attention to detail is at the forefront of every day planning and operations. The friendly and dedicated staff at Etali Safari Lodge ensures that you have an unforgettable safari experience during your stay.
LOCATION & ACCESS
Access to Etali Safari Lodge is by road or air.
It is an approximate 4 hour's drive from Johannesburg and about 2 hours’ drive from Gaborone.
Road transfers can be arranged by the Etali Safari Lodge.
Daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg directly to Etali Safari Lodge can be arranged by the lodge.
