ACCOMMODATION

Cathedral Peak Hotel offers a wide variety of accommodation. The en-suite standard rooms and standard thatched rooms are ideally situated in the beautiful hotel gardens and can accommodate between 2 and 4 guests.

The spacious deluxe suites have a private veranda and garden and the Inter-leading family deluxe rooms accommodate up to four guests in either twin or double beds. All hotel rooms provide tea and coffee making facilities, heaters, telephones, televisions and en-suite bathrooms with both bath and shower.

The well-appointed executive or honeymoon rooms, boast a large four poster bed, television, and telephone, mini bar fridge, electric fireplace, underfloor heating, spa bath, and private veranda with spectacular mountain views.

The Presidential Suite boasts a fireplace, spa bath, steam bath, under floor heating, two televisions with full DSTV, air-conditioning, and electric curtains opening onto a private veranda with spectacular mountain views. The natural surroundings are introduced into the décor and the guests will have the use of a private golf cart for the duration of their stay.

Cathedral Peak Hotel boasts five fully equipped modern conference venues, accommodating up to 200 delegates. All-inclusive conference packages are designed to cater for either large seminars or smaller management meetings.

WILDLIFE & NATURE

The area of Cathedral Peak is surrounded by wilderness and guests at Cathedral Peak Hotel can enjoy some of the most spectacular mountain scenery imaginable. The peak is bordered by Mdedeleo and Mlambonja wilderness areas. A selection of winding trails through mountain scenery, streams, waterfalls, pools and overgrown trees make wandering this terrain a memorable walking experience.

uKhahlamba-Drakensberg has one of the biggest and most concentrated collections of rock paintings in the world. There are more than 40 000 individual paintings across 1 000 caves and shelters.

The oldest paintings date back about 7 000 years. On average, most of the San rock art is about 4 000 years old. It is evident that the Drakensberg is one of the world’s most concentrated collections of San rock art.

The mountains of uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park are one of only 28 World Heritage Sites that are of both cultural and natural global significance. Besides the spectacular views…the peaks, valleys, marshlands and hills are bursting with wildlife. There are various plant species in the Drakensberg Alpine Centre, of which 334 are found nowhere else, while 594 of these are near-endemic. The area is one of southern Africa’s eight major centres of diversity of amphibians and reptiles, while more than 311 bird species have been recorded, including the vulnerable Cape vulture and the endangered bearded vulture. There are at least 44 dragonfly and 74 butterfly species.

There are 64 animal species in the park. The park also protects the country’s largest populations of Cape clawless otter and spotted-necked otter, both of which thrive in the streams and rivers that flow off the mountains.

LOCATION

Cathedral Peak Hotel is situated in the Northern Drakensberg, about 46 kilometres from Winterton, in KwaZulu-Natal. It is approximately 250 kilometres from Durban and 400 km from Johannesburg.
